WHY?
This customer brought us her brand-new Tesla Model S and said she needed radar and laser protection. After having a stealth-installed radar detection system in her previous vehicle, she was feeling nervous about getting a ticket in the Tesla. If you’ve ever driven or been in a quiet and quick car, it’s easy to speed without even realizing it.
During the free consultation we were able to recommend some fantastic options that provide next-level protection against radar and laser, while looking as stealth and discrete as possible.
WHAT?
Installed stealth radar detector and laser diffusers – We used the Stinger Radar system with three sets of front laser sensors. Stinger Radar offers the sleekest and newest technology in radar detection and laser defense. The Stinger HD+ radar antenna offers more surface area for detection than any other competitor, thus giving you the most advanced warning against radar.
Perhaps the most impressive feature of the Stinger systems is their fiberoptic laser diffusers. Their diffusers are the smallest and most discrete sensors available and they provide superior protection against all laser guns, including DragonEye and Laser Ally. As seen in the photos, the laser diffusers are about the diameter of an ink pen. This is especially important since getting caught with laser shifting equipment is illegal in Colorado. Stinger Radar took this into account when designing their full-stealth radar system, which is why every piece is meant to camouflage with the vehicle.
Mounted strip display for alerts – Stinger Radar offers a strip display and an LCD display for this system. We chose the strip display for this application since the customer cared about sleekness and we were able to mount it in a location that is cohesive with the vehicle. The system also has audible alerts, but the strip display offers visual alerts, as well as buttons to control the system and access settings.

HOW?
Elevated Audio is known first and foremost for our customer’s overall experience from beginning to end. Winning the North American 2018-2019 Customer Choice Award in the 12-volt industry-validated our commitment to provide trusted interactions between our store in Denver and our customers.
Here’s how we performed the installation.
WIRING
All of the wiring for the Stinger Radar system was ran through factory Tesla wire routes. Our install is going to look clean, even behind the panels.
MOUNTING THE HD+ RADAR ANTENNA
Since radar detection sensors do not require a direct line-of-sight, we are able to mount them discretely behind the front bumper. Nothing special on the radar portion of this job, we simply mounted the radar antenna behind the front bumper.
MOUNTING THE CENTER FIBER-SETS
Rather than mounting the fiber sensors directly in the bumper, we decided to get creative with the center fiber sets and mount them in the bottom screws of the front license plate. We did exactly what it sounds like we did, carefully drilled out the center of the license plate mounting screws and then back-mounted the sensors into the screws. In the photos you can see a small black dot in the center of the bottom screws, those are the fiber sensors for laser diffusing.
MOUNTING THE OUTER FIBER-SETS
The vehicle did not provide an optimal mounting surface on the sides of the front bumper. When mounting these fiber sets, it’s very important that all of the sensors are on the same angle and facing the same direction. If one of your sensors is off angled compared to the others, the system may not perform properly.
We wanted to build something for the sensors that would look sleek with the bumper and not stand-out. We decided to build custom acrylic wedges that we back-mounted the fiber sets in, then mounted the acrylic wedges to the bumper. The side sensors are still hard to see for someone standing since they are tucked into the openings of the bumper. Overall, we were very pleased with how clean all of the fiber sets turned out, and on a vehicle like this, they just appear to be another special Tesla sensor.
MOUNTING THE STRIP DISPLAY
We did not overthink this one, the vent to the right of the steering wheel was screaming “put display here!” We often build custom mounting plates or trims for the displays; however, if the vehicle has a great location that does not require custom labor, we will keep it simple and clean. The strip display on this unit is so ordinary looking, which is exactly what the customer wanted!
THE RESULT!
We strive for a great experience in-house and after the sale. We are happy to know there is one more person on the road enjoying their commute without stressing about getting a speeding ticket!
Overall, this Stinger Radar system turned out fantastic. The install appears factory to the average person, which is the most important factor when installing a system like this. We tested the system for radar detection and laser diffusing, as we do every radar system, and the Stinger performed perfectly.
